I was introduced to the infamous webcomic "Homestuck" in middle school orchestra. A friend of mine would play cool tunes on the violin, and informed me they were from Homestuck. I skimmed a chunk of the comic on my iPod touch and the world was never the same.
I never read all that much of the comic- I didn't have a computer at the time so I had to read on my aforementioned iPod touch, where a lot of the elements didn't work. I definitely enjoyed a lot of the fan content, namely funny youtube videos and art and memes on Tumblr. The comic's sense of humor is definitely what stuck with me the most. I also became really attached to Intermission, because it was its own mostly-contained story that I could actually read the entirety of. Tavros was easily my favorite character at the time because he was a nerd and loser and generally a nice guy. I felt bad for him and wanted to be friends with him SO BAD.
Homestuck was a bridge to making a lot of friends with similar interests at a time when I was more withdrawn. I remember a friend gifted me a Tavros pin, and I wore that thing so much that the metal tarnished. I saw that same person almost 10 years later and though I had forgotten much of our previous friendship, I could tell them I remembered that gift!
