Dia de los Muertos

My school made an effort to celebrate all kinds of holidays from different cultures. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a several-day long holiday observed in Mexico for remembering and celebrating those who have passed away.

Most of us kids hadn't been around for a long enough window of time to lose family members we actually knew. I remember making an Ofrenda (altar containing the favorite foods of the deceased) for my recently-passed elderly cat. It was covered in cheese popcorn, because of a often-told story of him stealing a piece out of my mother's mouth.

I always remember seeing other classes' decorated sugar skulls displayed on tables while walking through the hallway. I wonder if anyone ever stole and ate any of those, because I definitely felt the urge to.
